It's so easy for me to keep moving and keep fit in the warmer months. I love to be outdoors and I tend to do a lot of things with my family that keep us moving outside. Once the colder months come around I tend to hit a slump.
It's cold and I don't really enjoy walking or bike riding in the cold. During warmer months we enjoy walking or biking after dinner and in the winter months it's dark after dinner so that eliminates that ![]()
What do you do in the winter months to keep active and fit? I'm always looking for some new ideas.

I'm right there with you, Laura!
I've been taking classes at my gym to get motivated. It's easier to go out and do it if I know I have to be there at a specific time. Right now I *heart* Pilates.
Another idea: you could try to get into winter sports like ice skating or snowboarding. Not an everyday thing, but at least you get to be outside!

Right now, shoveling is my main form of exercise!
I suppose I could just keep moving piles of snow around my yard- a new trend!

I think we can all relate!
I am planning on going to the mall to do a few laps. I'll be joining the group that I used to laugh at power walking in the mall
Who does that, right?

This will be my first bummer,, I've been training up for two months to get started on my 5 day a week walking program and its going from 60 sunny outside today to mid 20's tomorrow and snowing... I hope it's a light snow and will pass through quickly so I can finish my second week on goal.... if not I won't let it get me down... always happy to do work out inside,,, just really enjoy making my goal each week... Send warm sunny thoughts my way....

I am totally feeling the slump! And it certainly doesn't help that the sun is hiding, and now expecting a winter storm on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day in Minnesota. At least it will be a white Christmas! ha ha.
I think my fiance and I are going to go to open gym at the high school on Sundays...to do some sports, and even open swim. Let's see if we actuall go though. Or go to the gym, but as of late with the roads being crappy...that too feels like a chore. I am hoping to ice skate some...it burns 450 an hour according to the new issue of Fitness! How awesome is that. Anyways, I'm not feeling motivated enough to work out, so I am looking forward to see what others put!
Laura, Your not the only one! ![]()

I used to have a gym membership and that really did help keep me going during the winter months. If there was a class you wanted you HAD to be there when it started or you missed it! I enjoyed Pilates but I really had a blast with Spinning classes! I really miss them. It was a small women's gym and I loved it! Unfortunately the economy woes took a toll on the small business and it closed ![]()
With the snow melting here I've been able to get out walking. I have woods near my house and the kids love trampling around out there. Right now it's just easier to do something that involves my kids so I'm all about kid-friendly and outdoor family activities!

Do you still have snow on the ground? Have you started walking yet?
Tell me about your 5 day a week program. How far do you walk each day? Do you vary it from week to week or day to day? How did you set your goals? Details! This sounds interesting so I want details! LOL

Thanks Laura, I actually did make it out the next day with snow on the ground.. I just made up my mind to bundle up and just go and decide how I felt after I at least tried it... That would be my weak point that I am learning to work through, I'll tell myself at the slightest doubt ( I can't) and just set myself down the path of not doing before I even give it a try.... Working on that.....by first calling it what it is when I do it... LOL LOL... But did get out for my walk and made my 5 day a week goal and taught my self a good lesson,, I loved it, and felt so good about getting it done...
for my program it is still new, I am still trying different things and finding what I like to keep them in the program and let go of what I don't like.. I dabbled first with a day here and there of short walks couple of telephone poles and back,,, and it has just added up to 3.5 miles long 5 days a week, some days I race walk, some days I add hills and one day a week I am starting to add a run/walk for right now just a mile long during my 3.5 mile walk, but since I am doing ok with it,, I will work towards making it 2 miles of walk/run...
If I had to make a choice, It will be the top of my list to always make that 5 days a week .. and be flexible on the content of the walk depending on how my body is doing, and the weather... I need to learn most to get up and do and make it a life long change more then anything... it is my weak link that I want to achieve...

Interestingly enough.. I love working out in the cold weather! I run, so I love getting out there and being frigid for a few minutes then warming up... it's invigorating to me! Plus, I get to buy cute winter workout clothes that make me feel badass ![]()
But... when I'm stuck indoors I raid my workout dvds. I have P90X, Jillian MIchaels (all of them) and some pilates. If they don't get me going I've become a BIG fan of Comcast's OnDemand workouts from Exercise TV. WOW! THere are always new things and they range from 10 minutes to hour long workouts, so sometimes I piece together a bunch of smaller ones to keep it up. Otherwise, I dance around my house...
Good luck getting through the winter... spring will be here soon!!
